All-new, featuring fuel-efficient EcoBoost engines. IntroductionThe 2013 Ford Escape is a total redesign that moves the top-selling compact SUV into the times, with high-tech small engines, a smooth 6-speed transmission, aerodynamic front styling, and electronic wizardry. Ford claims 11 features exclusive to the Escape in the compact SUV class, everything from a capless fuel nozzle to Torque Vectoring Control, which helps the Escape corner more securely.  Gas prices have fueled the compact SUV market (in Europe it's quadrupled in the last decade), so this is a class that's important to Ford's Climate Control✔ Cruise Control✔ Remote Start✔ Alloy Wheels

2008 ford escape review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. One of ford's best gets better. introductionthe ford escape has been thoroughly updated for 2008, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it america's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. The escape's standard safety features are upgraded significantly for 2008.  we'd call the escape a little truck among small suvs. Its new styling deliberately invokes ford's larger, truck-based expedition and explorer sport-utilities. Escape's ride height and seating position are a bit higher than competitors such as the honda cr-v, and it can tow up to 3,500 pounds, which is substantially more than most other vehicles in the class.  yet the ford escape still delivers the advantages of unit-body, car-based competitors such as the honda cr-v. All variants, including the v6 and escape hybrid, deliver some of best epa mileage ratings in the class. All, including the gas-electric hybrid, are offered with either front- or all-wheel drive. For the most part, the hybrid drives just like a conventional gas-only escape. It's a well-executed package. Folding the rear seats opens a good sized cargo area with a flat floor, and space behind the seat surpasses that in the trunk of the typical sedan. Interior storage options have improved considerably. The finish is more upscale and pleasing, and feature function and switches are among the best.  safety features that were extra-cost options on lower-trim models are now standard across the board, including ford's roll stability control system. Escape now sets the class benchmark for safety features.  there's a ford escape model for most tastes and needs. Dollar for feature, ford escape prices have dropped considerably the past few years. The premium for the escape hybrid has also decreased. It's now less than $2,000 more than a comparably equipped limited.  the ford escape remains one of the more appealing vehicles in its class, regardless of price, and certainly one of the better values. The xls comes with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power windows, mirrors and locks, an am/fm stereo with cd and auxiliary jack, rear window defroster and 16-inch steel wheels.    the escape xlt 20,880) and xlt 4wd 22,360) add more standard features, including upgraded cloth upholstery, a power driver's seat, cruise control, privacy glass and 16-inch alloy wheels. The cargo convenience group 395) includes a retractable cargo area cover and a compartmentalized rear storage bin. The audiophile package 695) includes a high-power stereo with seven speakers, subwoofer and the in-dash cd changer. The limited luxury package 795) adds dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats and a back-up warning system. The audiophile and navigation package 2,695) includes the stereo upgrade and ford's touch-screen navigation system; in the hybrid, it also adds a meter that graphically and immediately demonstrates the benefits of hybrid drive, and helps the driver maximize fuel economy. Other options include cruise control 225), cd changer 295), a power moonroof 795), floor mats 55), 16-inch alloy wheels 375), 17-inch chromed wheels 695), and a class ii towing package 345).  safety features have been upgraded substantially for 2008, making equipment that was previously optional on lower trim levels standard across the board, and setting the class benchmark for small sport-utilities. Passive safety features include front- and side-impact airbags for front occupants and curtain-type head protection airbags for all outboard seats. The side curtains can remain inflated for several seconds in the event of a rollover, and are designed to slide between the side glass and occupants if the people are oddly seated or resting heads against a window. Rsc adds a second gyroscopic roll-rate sensor to the typical stability control package, measuring the escape's roll angle and roll rate and applying countermeasures (such as braking one of the wheels or reducing power) to increase rollover resistance. walkaroundthe 2008 ford escape has been re-styled more thoroughly than a quick glance might suggest. None of its major body panels are common to previous models, but the redesign is evolutionary and the most obvious changes are in the details, or jewelry, as designers call them. In an impressionistic way, the new escape will look familiar to those who have owned previous escapes, or those who pay attention to what others drive.  as such, the new escape has the air of a conventional, truck-based suv, with a more rugged look than many other small, sedan-platform sport-utilities such as the honda cr-v. For starters, escape sits a bit higher than many competitors (8. 1 inches of ground clearance), and the high profile is enhanced by its design.  the new grille looks like it was designed for a truck. The headlights are essentially connected to the grille, and shaped to create a family resemblance with ford's edge crossover suv. Yet the grille itself is tall and flat and stacked right on top of a skid plate-type fascia that flows under the bumper. Escape's beltline, or the crease that runs just under the windows, is high, too, and its roof pillars are blacked out. The taillights have a clear band that wraps around the rear corners. The lower bumpers and rocker panels are now painted to match the body on all models, rather than molded in a matte finish. In total, the effect is cleaner and more polished than previous models, and it's all quite handsome.  the trim levels are easy to distinguish from the front of the car. The base escape xls has a chrome grille and body-colored fascia from the bumper down. The xlt is identical, except for prominent fog lights in the front bumper. This adds the chrome grille and more, with brightwork flowing down into the skid plate and bumper. It looks like a big, shiny t on the front of the vehicle.  some changes to the new escape are functional more than aesthetic. The side mirrors are larger than before, but ford claims their shape generates less noise as air speeds over them. The roof, too, is designed to reduce interior noise. Recessed channels running its length are intended to move air more quietly over the surface. Horizontal ribs underneath the panel add structure, which limits flex in the metal and reduces booming noise inside at high speeds.  we're fond of a couple of features in back of the escape. A new step pad on the bumper provides secure footing for anyone who steps up to put something on the roof rack, and the two-piece tailgate is handy. The rear glass can be popped open with the key fob, so dropping small items like a gym bag into the cargo area is much easier than it might be with some competitors, which require hefting the entire gate upward. interiorthe 2008 ford escape interior is all new, and we like it. It's not significantly roomier or a leap forward in design, but it's well thought out and well executed. It's a definite improvement in ergonomic function and overall visual appeal, and it makes a nicer place to spend time.  this is one of ford's best interiors in years in terms of the look and feel of materials used. It looked like the lacquered finish on a fine piano. The satiny black or silver used in lower trim levels isn't bad, either. 1999 ford taurus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. A perennial best-seller. introductionthe big news for the taurus this year is that the price has dropped. The base lx is $1000 less than last year, dropping to $17,995. The upscale se dropped $1080 to $18,995, while the se wagon is down $1840 to $19,995. It was the best-selling car in the u. From 1992 to 1996 and more than 357,000 were sold last year. The taurus is popular in rental car fleets. And in just one year it has assumed a starring role on the booming nascar winston cup circuit. walkaroundmost people either like the styling of the taurus or they don't. The current model makes a bolder design statement than the previous generation. The theme is oval inside and out.  both lx and se come standard with the vulcan 3. 0-liter overhead-valve v6 rated at 145 horsepower. Optional for both is a double overhead-cam, 32-valve, 3. 0-liter duratec v6 that makes 185 hp.  (the $29,550 taurus sho comes with a 235-horsepower 3. 4-liter dohc v8. Shift quality was a persistent criticism of first-year editions of this latest-generation taurus, so ford recalibrated the computer controls changed the torque converter and used a different final-drive ratio. The result is smoother, more efficient shifting. The more powerful duratec engine comes with a higher stall-speed torque converter to allow it to rev more quickly to its most efficient operating range. This combines with a numerically higher axle ratio to produce quicker off-the-line acceleration.  it has taken detroit a while to come to parity with the europeans and japanese in the suspension department, and the taurus is a good example of getting it right. The front suspension is a macpherson strut design with a lower control arm and stabilizer bar. The advantage is a more precisely positioned suspension to maximize handling and response. There are disc brakes in front with drum brakes at the rear. The wagon and the sho get rear discs. Abs is optional on the wagon, standard on the sho. interiorthe exterior oval theme is picked up inside on the instrument panel, vents and door handle recesses. But give it some time. In an era when most instrument panels all seem to look alike, the one in the taurus is a refreshingly distinctive change. It is especially distinctive when compared to the generic instrument panels on the honda accord and toyota camry. And the taurus interior is more attractive and is of a higher quality than the chevy malibu.  the instrument panel is also well organized. The buttons and switches run from lower left to upper right within the oval for a double visual shock, but the arrangement is quite logical; it doesn't take long for a driver to make adjustments by touch alone without taking attention away from the road. The buttons and switches have a high-quality, high-tech feel.  bucket seats are standard on all models with a floor-mounted shifter. An optional front bench seat is available with a three-way flip-fold console seat. The center portion can be used as a seating position, with its own safety belt, or it can be flipped forward to become an armrest, or it can be folded open once more to reveal storage compartments for cups, tapes and coins. We found the center space too small for even small people. But for organizing the small items that get scattered around in a family car, this is an exceptionally inventive piece of design work. This year things are simpler, though it's still sometimes confusing which items are standard and which are optional. But the current generation taurus - now in its third season - is a leap ahead of the old one.  that leap started with one of the best chassis in the midsize class. A well-engineered chassis allows the suspension to perform well, keeping the car flat in corners and sopping up bumps and bangs. The taurus handles well, though it feels bigger and heavier than a camry, accord or malibu.  while the overhead-valve vulcan v6 provides adequate performance, the best choice is the double overhead-cam duratec. Smooth, quiet and responsive, ford's duratec engine feels good launching off the line. The additional power makes merging and passing quicker and safer. Although general seating comfort is good, we found the optional bench seat marginal in terms of lateral support. Reducing the model count makes the buying experience easier.  the taurus faces strong rivals in 1999, particularly from its perennial nemesis, the honda accord, which was redesigned last year. Add to that a strong charge from the recently redesigned toyota camry. Pricing and performance of the three are basically on a par. So when it gets to crunch time around the kitchen table, the choice in many families may hinge on that controversial taurus shape. assembled inatlanta, ga, chicago, il. options as tested3. 0-liter duratec v6, abs, automatic climate control, keyless remote entry, premium am/fm/cassette stereo. model testedtaurus lx. 1996 ford club wagon review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The body-on-frame king of the road. introductionthe undisputed market leader in the full-size passenger van segment is the ford club wagon, the passenger version of the econoline van. The club wagon, until this model year the only full-size passenger van with body-on-frame construction, has always been head-and-shoulders better than the chevrolet and dodge full-size vans, which are built with unitbody construction techniques and simply aren't as stiff or as quiet as the frame-built ford. Lots of reasons, most of them having to do with ultimate roominess, the trailer-towing capabilities of rear-wheel-drive vans, and the availability of big v-8 engines for pulling mom, the kids, the dog, all the camping gear, as well as the boat, motor and trailer. We've driven perhaps 35 examples over the past 20 years, a dozen or so since its latest tune-up in 1992. It's simply smoother, quieter, and better built than its two prime competitors, with a much more integrated feel. The bucket seats are comfortable and supportive enough for thousand-mile days. Its monster 138-inch wheelbase provides a luxurious road ride, even though the front beam-and-coil and rear leaf spring suspension sound primitive. The instrument panel is straightforward, with excellent graphic presentation (no tach, though), and the engine cover has a truly large and flexible storage space built into it for all those family trip items. There are still a few visible screw heads, and some body color paint can be seen on the interior, but overall, this is a quality piece. summarythe club wagon's current family of engines, the 4. 9-liter inline six, the 5. 0, 5. 7- and 7. 5-liter overhead valve v-8s, and the 7. 3-liter power stroke diesel, is the widest in the industry, adding to the already amazing flexibility offered to the customer by the club wagon chateau. All but the power stroke will be gone next year, though, as a new generation of more expensive ford engines, a 4. 2-liter v-6, 4. 6- and 5. 4-liter v-8s and a 6. 8-liter v-10, take over. assembled inlorain, ohio. options as testedchateau package, speed control, tilt wheel, clearcoat paint, chrome rear step bumper, 5. 0-liter v-8 engine. model testedclub wagon chateau. 2003 ford taurus review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Refinements improve a solid sedan. introductionthe ford taurus is more than practical family transportation. It is a genuinely exciting mid-size sedan. New seals for the doors, windows and rearview mirrors along with new sound damping in the floor make for a quieter cabin. Illuminated cruise control switches have been added and the controls for the adjustable pedals have been moved to the instrument panel for easier access. New seven-spoke wheels add a fresh look to the 2003 models.  for 2003, more features come standard, including power windows and door locks, a tilt steering column and floor mats. Optional trim packages include a new sport package for the ses sedan. The wagon is available in se 21,345) and sel 23,170) versions. A choice of two 3. 0-liter v6 engines is available. This 3. 0-liter 12-valve v6 uses a traditional overhead-valve design. The vulcan v6 is rated at 155 horsepower and 185 pounds-feet of torque. Although not particularly quick from a standstill, once rolling it delivers more than adequate performance, along with a nicely rorty exhaust note. A flexible fuel version of the vulcan engine can run on e-85 ethanol, regular unleaded gasoline or any combination of the two in the same 18-gallon fuel tank.  ses is a popular choice and comes in standard and deluxe variations. Ses adds an in-dash single cd player, front bucket seats with six-way power and a manual lumbar adjustment on the driver's side. Also standard is ford's duratec v6, a more sophisticated engine with double overhead cams working 24 valves. This engine also displaces 3. 0 liters, but revs higher and produces 200 hp and 200 lbs.-ft. It comes with five-spoke aluminum sport wheels, a rear spoiler, special fender badging, pewter brushed interior trim, two-tone black and gray sport seats and special floor mats.  sel, available in deluxe and premium editions, adds seven-spoke machined aluminum wheels, a six-cd changer, leather-wrapped steering wheel, dark paledo wood-trimmed interior, automatic electronic temperature control, adjustable pedals and keyless keypad entry.  wagons are better equipped than their sedan counterparts. The sel wagon adds seven-spoke machined aluminum wheels, a six-cd changer, keypad entry and automatic climate controls.  key options for many models include a mach audio system 345), anti-lock brakes 600), cellport communications system 350), a power moonroof 895), and adjustable pedals 120).  . walkaroundthe ford taurus is a familiar design that has been with us for a few years now. The grille is broad, aggressive, and unmistakably ford-oval, grinning between the large cat's-eye headlamps. Its flanks undulate handsomely with crisp character lines, and its rear end bears a resemblance to the sexy stern of the jaguar s-type.  the sedan's trunk is of generous size and contains the mini-spare tire. The wagon has a flip-up rear window in its tailgate.  . interiorthe taurus cabin is functional and attractive, with controls that are straightforward and easy to use. The materials, switchgear and interior textures have a high-quality look and feel. For 2003, those controls are mounted in a new dashboard and console unit.  the other big interior change is the quiet, thanks to better noise, vibration and harshness controls that include better damping in the floor and measures that reduce air leakage and cabin noise, including the use of expanding foam in the windshield support pillars and various body cavities and the use of new sealing materials in weld access holes.  lx, se and the non-sport ses sedans seat six, thanks to a seating console between their separate front seats. Ford's well-publicized adjustable pedals make a comfortable driving position possible for even very short-legged drivers. The small-diameter steering wheel has a pleasingly thick grip. The cushions and seatbacks are more firm than soft, and firm is usually best on long drives.  the roomy rear compartment seats three, but is set up well for two as the seat forms two semi-buckets and has a pull-down central armrest containing two cupholders. A ventilation duct at the rear of the center console provides climate control for rear passengers. Dual baby-seat anchors are provided on each side of the rear seat. In the se wagon and ses and sel sedans, the rear seatback is split 60/40 and folds down, providing an enormous pass-through luggage capability for skis and other long items.  with its 60/40 split rear seats folded down, the roomy taurus wagon has space for a maximum of 81. 3 cubic feet of cargo; with six passengers aboard, there's still 38. 8 cu. Behind them.  . driving impressionthe ford taurus is a genuinely satisfying car to drive. Its duratec v6 is as responsive as a finger snap, delivering crisp acceleration from low revs straight through to the glass-smooth full-throttle shift point. This engine not only provides good thrust, it makes an understated but nicely throaty declaration that it means business. Its shifts are positive, authoritative, and at the same time, almost impossible to feel. Powerful front-wheel-drive cars like the taurus sel need traction control to reduce wheel spin and provide better control of the car.  the taurus chassis is a good match for this forceful duratec drivetrain. The fully independent suspension provides a smooth, impact-free ride. Taurus uses gas-pressurized shock absorbers, unusual in a family sedan; when pushed in the corners, it remains stable, nimble and ready for more. Cornered hard, its body roll is moderate, and the nicely tuned variable-ratio power rack-and-pinion steering delivers a steady stream of road information. Braking performance was much smoother than that of a dodge intrepid tested at the same time.  with its excellent chassis and duratec power, the ford taurus comes close to being a sports sedan for the price of a family mid-size sedan.  . summaryfor several years, the taurus has been the bowl of chocolate-chip mint in a sea of plain vanilla. While most sedans in the mid-size class seem designed to blend into the scenery, the taurus stands out like a wildebeest in plaid pajamas.  not only does the taurus look like it came from the future, it drives like it came from europe. Yet it comes with a price tag that's quite reasonable. Two engines are available, and both deliver a vigorous response, though we recommend the newer duratec engine. Taurus rides smoothly enough for family duty

2011 ford fiesta review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All new fiesta brings new life to an old name. introductionthe all new 2011 ford fiesta resurrects a legacy nameplate in the blue oval family with a sparkling new sedan and hatchback that sport new technology inside and underneath. Non voice audio controls and for creature comfort settings revert to basic knobs and buttons that are sized and arrayed for ease of use with minimal distraction from the driving task.  comfortable seats have enough side and bottom bolsters to keep occupants properly positioned, but gingerly, without obstructing ingress and egress. Quality of interior materials is either on a par with or a tick or two above the expected standard for cars in the new fiesta's class. Ford wants to boost this even further, too, with something not commonly found on cars in this size and price class: leather seating surfaces and heated front seats are optional on the top of the line sedan and hatchback.  underneath, the fiesta introduces a new transmission technology as an option to the fiesta's standard, 5 speed manual gearbox. This is a 6 speed, twin clutch, automated manual that operates like an automatic but with the fuel economy of a manual transmission. Evidence of this latter benefit is the epa estimated, city/highway rating of 30/40 miles per gallon for the 6 speed against 29/38 mpg for the 5 speed. Normally, an automatic would come up two or more mpg short of a manual.  the new fiesta feels right at home running around town and on weekend errands. It slips conveniently into fleeting gaps in stop and go urban traffic and into space limited parking slots. Its 120 horsepower, 1. 6 liter engine will take the daily commute in stride. Wind and road noise is decently muted. Steering feel is certain. Corners taken at responsible speeds reveal little body roll. This means it'll also handle quite well a relaxed sunday drive to the coast or to a family gathering.  the two body styles make distinct statements. The sedan is an interesting combination of an american style econobox with softened edges and a high rear deck (trunk lid). The hatchback presents a more satisfying, euro like profile, with nicely wedged side character lines and an almost sensuously rounded posterior. The standard transmission is a 5 speed manual. Steel wheels with a six spoke hubcap wear 185/65r15 tires. An option package adds a cd/mp3 player, remote keyless entry, auto lock doors 495).  fiesta se 14,320) comes with the fiesta s option package content plus upgraded upholstery; metallic painted interior trim accents; power windows; trip computer; and 195/60r15 tires on aluminum alloy wheels. Option packages include sync entertainment center with six speakers and 80 watts, redundant audio controls on the steering wheel and usb equipped center console 665), and a sport appearance group 815) that includes painted aluminum wheels, cruise control and deck lid spoiler.  fiesta sel 16,320) has everything that was standard and optional on the s and the se plus rear seat floor mats; seven color ambient lighting; a second, rear seat auxiliary power point; auto dim rearview mirror; sirius satellite radio; and leather wrapped steering wheel. Fiesta sel comes with 195/50r16 tires on aluminum alloy wheels. One upgrade option group is offered, with chrome external trim, heated front seats, perimeter alarm and keyless door unlock/pushbutton start/stop 795).  the fiesta hatchback has two trim levels, the se 15,120) and the ses 17,120). Standard equipment on the se hatchback tracks the se sedan's, as do the available option groupings' content, save for the sport appearance group 575) because the hatchback comes standard with a spoiler. Fiesta ses is equipped similarly to sel.  stand alone options for the se sedan and hatchback include a power moonroof 695); sirius satellite radio coupled with seven color ambient lighting 370); carpeted rear floor mats 35); and heated front seats and outside mirrors 195). The super fuel economy package 795) comprises cruise control, partial grille blockers, side air deflectors, underbody shields and 195/60r15 t-rated (low rolling resistance) tires. (ford hasn't released official estimates for expected fuel economy increases, but independent studies suggest t-rated tires can cut fuel use by between 1. 5 percent and 4. 5 percent.)  options for sel and ses include leather seating trim 715), power moonroof and special exterior paints. The sel can be tricked out with a ground effect lower body kit 700), and a more aggressive, euro style rear spoiler can be added to the ses 295).  safety equipment that comes standard includes seven airbags, with dual stage frontal, front seat side impact, side curtain and driver knee; antilock brakes; electronic stability control; tire pressure monitoring system; and child safety seat anchors (latch). walkaroundlooking at the 2011 fiesta profiling proud in a parking lot, certain telling descriptors come to mind. Overdone side sculpting. Proper proportion (hatchback). Hyped fender arches. Conversely, some of it isn't.  ford's stylists describe the lower grille opening as a reverse trapezoid. Bottom-feeding catfish fits, too. The body colored treatment of the hatchback's upper grille is a better fit for the car's proportions, and market position, than the ford fusion themed horizontal chrome strips on the sedan. The geometrical exercises that frame the led driving lights on the uplevel models conflict with the otherwise, flowing round shapes of the front fascia and the double creased fender arches. Eyed head on, the stance is solid, with the front tires visible outside of the leading edges of the fenders.  viewed from the side, what's forward of the sedan's c-pillar (the vertical frame behind the rear side door's window) looks right. The front wheelwell arch may overwhelm the tire and the parallel character lines on the upper and lower door panels a little too sharply creased, but the silhouette shows a relatively fast windshield, wraparound headlights that minimize the front overhang and a good balance between body and window. From the c-pillar aft, however, something's out of line or of alignment. Either the backlight (the rear glass) is too round or too fast or the deck lid is too short (which also means a small trunk opening). It's as if that part of the sedan belongs on a larger car.  the side hindquarters of the hatchback, on the other hand, share none of this uncertainty, with all the lines, even the brazen character slashes on the doors, coming together in a shapely collection of complementary facets. Perchance this is because the hatchback is some 13 inches shorter overall than the sedan. Whatever, it's a tauter package and a better fit for the wheelbase (distance between the wheels, front to rear), which is the same on both models.  the posterior of the sedan is econo car generic and wouldn't look out of place on any number of pacific rim import brands. The chrome strip topping the license plate recess gives the trunk lid a touch of class. The black valance panel across the bottom of the rear bumper helpfully reduces the visual mass. The hatchback's vertically arrayed taillights brace the liftgate, which is hinged far enough forward that opening demands minimal space behind the car. The spoiler perches atop the rear window like an eyelid. The lip running the full width of the liftgate ties into the upper side character line and gives some heft to the lower portion of the liftgate, contrasting well with a black lower valance slightly more prominent than the sedan's. interiorif there was a guiding credo for the designers assigned to craft an all-new interior for the 2011 fiesta, it was to focus more on entertaining than informing. How this affects the driver's focus on the primary job of driving a car may be subject to debate, but clearly, at least as far as the new fiesta is concerned, ford has chosen its side.  the dominant feature of the dashboard is not the instrument panel, with its analog speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge, but the center of the dashboard. Ford says the array of infotainment controls housed in a brushed metallic pod and topped by a deeply hooded data screen was intended to evoke thoughts of a pda or a sma.
