2001 buick lesabre review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New features for an old friend. introductionin a market often ruled by fad and fashion, it is worth noting that buick has called its basic full-size car 'lesabre' for 43 continuous years. For the past 10 of those years, buick likes to remind us, lesabre has out-sold every other full-size car. Government crash tests.  buick lesabre was totally redesigned for 2000, and now moves into 2001 with new dual-stage airbags, 15-inch aluminum wheels for lesabre limited, and an oil-change interval that's been stretched from 7,500 to a full 10,000 miles. In particular, the side profile has a nice curvy upturn along the rear doors, leading to a high trunk; it's a nice classic touch, fitting lesabre's position as a premium sedan.  at the front, the lesabre has a distinctive buick grille that sits well forward and is almost part of the front bumper. The headlights are well integrated into the lines of the car. Buick claims that the new body is much stiffer than the pre-2000 model, giving the car a better ride and crisper handling.  safety is an important part of lesabre's image and buick has gone to great lengths to safeguard the occupants of the newest model. Dual front airbags are a given, but lesabre has side airbags for the front seats, too. In addition to self-sealing tires and a heads-up instrument display, this includes stabilitrak, an electronic vehicle-stability system that buick introduced in mid-2000. Stabilitrak helps keep the car on the correct line through a corner in slippery conditions by gently applying the brakes on one or more wheels. It cannot overcome the laws of physics, but it does add a margin of safety by reducing the effects of driver errors. The head-up display projects speed and other information onto the windshield in front of the driver's eyes.  the front seat belts are mounted to the seat frame, so they move with the seat for greater comfort. The seats boast a new design engineers like to call a 'catcher's mitt.' the seat back is much stiffer than usual; in an accident it holds the person in place and the headrest moves forward to lessen whiplash. It is especially effective common low-speed, rear-end accidents, according to buick. interiorbuick totally redesigned lesabre's dashboard last year to give the interior a fresh, modern, luxurious look. The dash sweeps across the width of the car with a canopy over the instruments extending from the passenger side to the driver's door panel. This design gives the interior an open feeling and integrates the door trim into the dashboard nicely. A wide strip of faux wood trim extends along the door panels and across the center of the dashboard.  the driver information center on the limited model has a digital readout that can display oil temperature, fuel consumption, tire pressure and other data. Round analog gauges are easy to read. A bench seat does not usually provide much support for the driver compared to a bucket seat and the lesabre's is no exception. A large flat writing surface also flips out. It could prove useful for people who need to have a notepad handy while on the road. But it sits at an awkward angle, and we found it difficult to use.  wide doors allow easy access to the front and rear seats. Rear-seat passengers will find plenty of room. The slightly longer wheelbase and wider track of this latest-generation lesabre increased rear seating space over pre-2000 models. It still gets a bit tight with three adults back there, however. An optional rear center armrest features an opening behind it to provide space for skis and other long objects. driving impressionbig buicks have not been known as cars that excel in the handling department. Their suspensions have been designed primarily to provide a soft, cushy ride, where the car tends to float over undulations and provides little feedback to the driver. At slow speeds this is fine, but at higher speeds, or on a winding road, a soft-sprung car is not as stable as one with a firmer suspension.  but when buick redesigned the lesabre last year, the engineers vastly improved its roadholding capability. As a result, the lesabre now handles much better than previous versions. That floating sensation is gone. But even the base lesabre should offer good handling.  the 3. 8-liter v6 engine is one of gm's best. It performs well in the lesabre, even though it has to propel a relatively heavy car. Although not officially billed as a luxury car, it provides a more luxurious environment than most luxury cars of just a few years ago. summarybuick prides itself as the maker of premium american cars and it has upheld that tradition with the 2001 lesabre. For not much more than the price of a compact car, the lesabre delivers six-passenger capacity with lots of standard features.

2005 buick lacrosse review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New midsize sedan is smooth, comfortable, roomy. introductionthe 2005 buick lacrosse replaces both the regal and the century as buick's midsize sedan, representing 50 percent of buick's annual car sales. Buick says it has the competition, specifically the ford five hundred, dodge intrepid, honda accord, and toyota camry, beat on a number of fronts, including quietness and overall refinement. This is a car that was well on its way to completion when gm vice-chairman and product guru bob lutz joined the company, and charged the buick team to delay the program one year, get the car right, and then introduce it. It's pretty clear that the wait, and the extra effort and money invested into the program, were worth it.  lacrosse is not an all-new car by any means. It's built in canada on gm's w-car intermediate platform, one of the oldest in the gm chassis inventory. But about 80 percent of the parts and systems underneath are new, along with new interior and exterior designs.  the lacrosse has a rich, high-quality looking interior with attractive woodgrain trim, nicely presented instruments and controls and available leather seats with nice-looking gathered stitching. Buick's quiet tuning has made the new lacrosse one of the quietest, most pleasant cars to ride and drive in among the entire class.  the lacrosse rides smoothly and quietly, but its steering is much more precise than previous models and it turns into corners crisply with little body lean. The v6 engines offer good power, growling under acceleration, but smooth and quiet when motoring along, and the transmissions work flawlessly.  new features make a well-equipped lacrosse a safe, all-weather family car with nice conveniences. The cx 22,835) is the base model and it comes with cloth upholstery and manually operated air conditioning. The lacrosse cx is powered by a cast-iron 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 engine that was first introduced in buicks back in 1979, the continuously improved and now rated at a modest 200 horsepower. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are optional.  the middle model, the cxl 25,335), comes with leather upholstery, automatic climate control, abs, and quite a list of additional standard equipment. The cxl also uses the 3. 8-liter engine.  the cxs 28,335) is the performance car of the family, with gm's new high-feature 3. 6-liter v6 with modern double overhead cams and variable valve timing develops about 240 horsepower. The cxs gets its own suspension and steering system, 17-inch tires and wheels, and a raft of additional touches like driving lights under the front bumper.  the lacrosse is available with five- or six-passenger seating: either bucket seats with a center console and shifter or a 40/20/40 bench seat with the shifter on the steering column. Standard features include tilt wheel, remote keyless entry, power driver's seat, programmable power locks, power windows, and a six-speaker am/fm/cd system. All models come standard with onstar including a one-year subscription.  options include side curtain air bags 395), stabilitrak chassis control on the cxs model only 495), xm satellite radio 325 with one-year free subscription), power sunroof 900), remote starting 150), heated front seats 295), 17-inch chrome wheels 695), and a chrome package 295). A gold convenience option package 1,150) is offered with a leather steering wheel with redundant climate and audio controls, a universal transmitter, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated outside mirrors, six-way power passenger seat, rear park assist, and rear reading lamps. Two cast aluminum wheels are available, one 16-inch and one 17-inch. walkaroundlacrosse is unmistakably a buick sedan, with its trademark vertical bar waterfall grille, long nose, long slopes and simple body curvatures. They've added a tiny third side window behind the c-pillar to add some visual interest. About the only new design theme is at the rear, where there is a discernible dent in the decklid that ties the taillamps together. There is a single, slender chrome side spear on the doors and body in lieu of anything sportier.  the base lacrosse cx comes with 16-inch wheels and bolt-on faux alloy wheel-covers and has almost no decoration at all. Body, door, and fender gaps are noticeably smaller than on the regal and century, and the new aero headlamps are said to be 35-percent brighter. Cx models can be identified by a grained graphite-color finish on the rocker panels underneath the doors, while other models have these panels in body color.  gm's aging w-car architecture has been torn apart and put back together to improve the lacrosse's ride and handling by several orders of magnitude. The old steel front cradle has been replaced by a lighter, stronger, stiffer extruded aluminum one that holds the engine, transaxle, steering and suspension tighter, controls powertrain rocking, and weighs 20 pounds less.  buick says the new car is designed with more high-strength steel content than regal and century, a magnesium cross-car beam behind the instrument panel, another cross-car beam behind the rear seats, steel reinforcements in the rocker panels, interlocking door latch system, high-strength steel door beams, and a double-thick quiet steel floor pan and firewalls, all added in the name of crash safety and quietness. Altogether, buick says, about 40 additional pounds of sound deadeners have been added to the car, including structural foam in the front fenders. interiorthe buick designers were given a much longer wheelbase, two inches longer than the old century and regal. And all of it was dedicated to back seat legroom. My 6-foot, 4-inch frame can sit behind a 6-foot, 4-inch driver with plenty of room to spare now.  the lacrosse interior is altogether new and different from the cheapie regal and century rent-a-car interiors. There are fewer but larger individual pieces, built to closer tolerances, for a richer, higher quality look inside. The instruments and controls are presented in white on black, and each of the three round dials in the deeply tunneled instrument panel has a chrome ring around it. Very nicely presented, sportier-looking than previous instruments, with small-diameter chrome-ringed knobs arrayed around the dashboard.  the center stack is done in a mica-flecked flat black, with a trip computer and driver information system that's easy to put through its menu, though the information panel is so glossy that it's hard to read in the morning or afternoon light. The entire dashboard is decorated with a very good imitation woodgrain material. Taken together, the system has made the new lacrosse one of the quietest, most pleasant cars to ride and drive in in the entire class.  new optional features available on the lacrosse that were never available on the century or regal include a remote starting system that will work from up to 500 feet away, onstar, xm satellite radio, and stabilitrak, and if we were ordering a lacrosse, we would add all of these excellent systems to make a truly complete, safe and all-weather family car. driving impressionwe drove all of the lacrosse models at the car's introduction in northern michigan. Both of the available v6 engines have been tuned to give a nice, healthy growl on full throttle, but disappear into the background in high-gear cruising.  the standard 3. 8-liter engine is rated at 200 horsepower and 225 foot-pounds of torque, a cast-iron v6 that's been fitted with electronic throttle control (etc), a stiffer crankshaft, an underhood silencer, new pulleys, new power steering, and a structural oil pan all in the name of less mechanical noise. With all of its new parts, the 3. 8 is the same gutsy v-6 it's always been, with good torque on demand, smooth, quiet operation, and 29 miles per gallon on the highway in the new car.  the new 3. 6-liter, the so-called high-feature v6, with double overhead cams and electronic throttle control has quite a bit more horsepower and torque, revs more freely, but comes only in the cxs (at a $3,000 price penalty). The final numbers are expected to be 240 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 230 foot-pounds of torque at 3200 rpm, and 28 mpg.  the transmissions in all three versions worked flawlessly. The optional stabilitrak suspension package comes with magnasteer ii power steering.  we found the csx more sporty to drive through the trees on an autumn day in northern michigan. The steering has the same good feel and turn-.

2008 buick lucerne review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth, spirited, well-engineered luxury sedans. introductionthe buick lucerne is an attractive car, with clean lines suggestive of a fine european import while maintaining buick traditions. Inside, the lucerne is elegant, comfortable and easy. Underway, it's smooth and quiet, but with precise steering and a chassis that handles winding roads with aplomb. We find the lucerne to be a plush, highly competent full-size sedan at a compelling price. The lucerne cx is tuned as a traditional buick, with the premium ride suspension. The lucerne cxl comes with a firmer ride and handling suspension, and is positioned to compete with the toyota avalon and lexus es 350. It's a very enjoyable car to drive, with agile handling and plenty of performance. The cxl special edition is even quicker with its optional v8.  the super is a new model with an old buick name, dating back to 1940 and last seen in 1958. The v8-powered super, which replaces last year's cxs, delivers even more horsepower and features magnetic ride control, an adaptive sports suspension developed for the corvette.  new for 2008 are two safety systems, side blind zone alert and lane departure warning, available on all models. Lane departure warning uses a camera to warn drivers of inadvertent lane changes. Stabilitrak with brake assist is now available on cx and cxl. Also for 2008, xm satellite radio is standard equipment in all models, and some options and equipment packages have been revised.  launched as a 2006 model to replace the lesabre and park avenue, the lucerne benefits from the structure and chassis hardware it shares with the cadillac dts. In this, lucerne is not breaking tradition but confirming it. The biggest buicks have shared body structure with cadillacs since the 1930s, if not before; and they have shared significant chassis pieces since 1965.  buick has a long history of innovative engineering, handsomely conservative styling, and premium luxury at below-premium prices. Standard equipment includes cloth upholstery; air conditioning; seats for five people with a power driver's seat; power windows; power door locks; leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel; am/fm/cd/mp3 audio with six speakers and steering wheel audio controls; xm satellite radio; cruise control; electrochromic rearview mirror; remote keyless entry; and 16-inch aluminum wheels. A comfort and convenience package 950) adds heated outside mirrors, dual-zone automatic climate control, a universal remote, a trunk cargo net, and a six-way power-adjustable passenger seat.  lucerne cxl 29,920) upgrades with leather seats, all items from the comfort and convenience package, and 17-inch bright aluminum wheels. The suspension is tuned a little tighter and includes airlift rear shocks for automatic level control.  the cxl special edition is available with the v6 31,735) or with a 275-hp 4. 6-liter v8 33,435). Special edition adds perforated leather seat inserts with contrasting stitching on the seats, console, armrest and door trim. A heated wood steering wheel 100-$150) and heated and cooled seats 895) are options with the package.  lucerne super 38,980) is powered by a 292-hp 4. 6-liter v8 and comes with magnasteer power steering, magnetic ride control adaptive suspension, stabilitrak stability control with brake assist, and p245/50r18 all-season radials on 18-inch bright-silver-painted aluminum wheels. Inside, super features a leather-wrapped upper instrument panel with french-seam stitching; leather seats with suede fabric inserts; harman-kardon audio; heated, wood-accented steering wheel on a power tilt-and-telescope steering column; wood shift knob; and other upgraded finishes and trims. The driver confidence, luxury, and comfort and convenience packages are standard. Outside, front and rear fascias, extended rocker panels, and integrated dual exhaust tips are unique to the super. Chrome wheels are optional 750).  options include the driver confidence package 995) with remote start, ultrasonic rear park assist, a theft-deterrent system, heated washer fluid, rainsense automatic windshield wipers and stabilitrak electronic stability control. The new side blind zone alert 395) and lane departure warning 295) systems are optional. The ultra confidence package 1,185) combines all of these features. Touch-screen navigation 1,945) is optional on super, cxl, and the special edition. The harman kardon stereo is available 495) on the special edition. A 6cd changer is optional 300) on all models. So is a power tilt-and-slide sunroof 900), and an engine block heater 75). Six-passenger seating is available on cx and cxl by ordering front bench seats 295). Some paint colors are extra-cost options.  safety features on all models include six airbags: a dual-stage driver's front airbag and a dual-depth front passenger bag, front-seat side-impact airbags, and full-coverage side-impact curtain airbags. The front seatbelts come with pretensioners, so be sure to wear them. Traction control, anti-lock brakes, and a tire pressure monitor are standard on all models. The first-ever application of a dual-depth passenger airbag has two sections; a smaller section deploys in a less severe crash or if the passenger is small or seated nearer the dashboard. In a bad crash or if the passenger is not wearing their seat belt the full bag deploys for maximum effect. walkaroundthere is no mistaking the lucerne for anything but a buick. The lucerne has a handsome appearance with a good stance thanks to its long wheelbase and wide track. The classic, buick waterfall grill blends in well with the large integrated headlamps. The side profile, with its steeply raked windshield, is reminiscent of several recently introduced european sedans such as the vw passat and audi a6. The rear of the lucerne features a high trunk line with nicely integrated tail lamps.  chrome trim is kept to a minimum. The only stylistic link to buicks of old is the row of small portholes on each of the front fenders. Flashback to the fifties, when more powerful buicks had more holes. These grille bars turn sharply inward at the top, giving more definition to the waterfall effect. Below the new grille, the look is more familiar, with twin lower air intakes accentuated by chrome slashes that seem to point to the outboard foglights, very much like last year's cxs.  the smaller main grille of the cx and cxl is finer in texture, and the twin lower air intakes on these models hide behind horizontal grillwork cut into the lower bumper.  the buick lucerne is built on the same platform as the cadillac dts and benefits from modern build techniques for a quiet luxury car. These include hydroformed frame rails for a stiffer body, and use of laminated steel with plenty of sound deadening material placed in strategic locations. Buick engineers shaped the outside of the door mirrors to lessen wind noise. The dashboard is fairly traditional in design with a smallish instrument pod containing three round gauges in front of the steering wheel.  the center stack is located high for easy access, and contains large knobs for operating the climate control and audio system.    onstar with turn-by-turn service comes standard and allows customers to talk to a live advisor who downloads complete step-by-step directions to the vehicle through the onstar system. Audio directions are then automatically played through the vehicle's stereo as they are needed, triggered by the onstar system's gps capabilities. We found the bucket seats provide a good level of comfort and come with an armrest in the center console.  rear-seat passengers are well taken care of with good headroom and excellent leg room. Lucerne's long wheelbase allows for a wider-opening rear door with almost no intrusion from the wheel well, making it easy to get in and out of the car. driving impressionthe buick lucerne is a smooth but spirited car. The ride quality is excellent

2002 buick park avenue review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Elegance, luxury and value. introductionthe park avenue is large and luxurious, buick's flagship. Though the park avenue is dated, it is a solid sedan, offering some of the latest technology for safety, convenience and communication from general motors.  equipped with a supercharged v6 engine, the top-level park avenue ultra is fast, stable and satisfying to drive. It's surprisingly agile and responsive. Standard features include a cloth-trimmed interior, power windows, power mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, automatic headlights and other conveniences. Anti-lock brakes (abs) and side-impact air bags are standard.  park avenue ultra 38,100) really moves with a 240-horsepower supercharged version of the 3. 8-liter v6. Trimmed in leather and wood, the ultra adds heated 10-way power front seats, mirrors that automatically tip downward for parallel parking, a compass, moisture-sensing windshield wipers, gm's onstar communications system, a premium stereo, and other luxuries. To complement its more powerful engine, the ultra comes with traction control, stabilitrak stability control, a heavy-duty transmission and magnasteer speed-sensitive power steering.  ultrasonic rear park assist 295) is a useful option that aids parking and enhances safety by sounding a tone as the rear bumper approaches objects. Also available is a head-up display 300) that projects vehicle speed onto the windshield.  a prestige package 1692) adds many ultra luxuries (but not the supercharger) to the base park avenue. Stabilitrak 495) and onstar are also available as options on the base park avenue. walkaroundbuick park avenue projects a muscular grace, like a big cat ready to leap. At the same time, its trim design emphasizes efficiency. The park avenue's cabin and trunk are the roomiest in its class. Big doors make getting in and out easy. Yet the park avenue packs these virtues into a shape that's graceful and quietly elegant.  park avenue's buick heritage is evident in the high, curved hip line, oval-shaped, vertically textured, forward-thrusting grille, bold horizontal taillights and slim, wraparound headlights. interiorthe park avenue boasts more interior room in both the front and rear seats than the lincoln continental or chrysler concorde limited. Slipping into the seats is easy, and free of the simultaneous duck-and-bend maneuver required by swoopier designs.  the interior is clean and tasteful. For 2002, southern walnut trim accents the dash and door panels. The cowl curves modestly over the main instruments. Besides its contemporary appearance, this design allows room for a big speedometer and tachometer that are easy to scan. Audio and climate controls use big buttons that are easy to find and operate when the car is in motion, and are visually set off from the rest of the interior by contrasting colors. A trip computer allows the driver to calculate fuel economy and miles-to-empty. It also provides tire pressure, oil level and coolant level information. The concert sound iii stereo system, standard on ultra and available on park avenue, comes with nine speakers, an amplifier, an integrated antenna system, and steering-wheel controls.  seating for six is standard, although the front-middle passenger may find the accommodations a little tight. So is personal choice, a feature that includes individually programmable key fobs that control security feedback, perimeter lighting, delayed locking, and memory settings for door locks, climate control, radio presets, seat adjustments, and inside and outside mirrors.  park avenue's trunk is slightly larger than that of the chrysler concorde or lincoln continental. driving impressionbuick park avenue is powered by gm's proven 3800 series ii v6. This 3. 8-liter engine delivers smooth, quiet power and brisk acceleration. The 3800 provides low-rpm getaway power, instant throttle response, and plenty of punch for passing. It's rated at 205 horsepower in the park avenue, and is supercharged to 240 horsepower in the ultra for quicker acceleration performance. That's a big plus, because a rigid structure ensures precise movement in the suspension. It also means that the springs, and not the body, absorb the bumps. Those two factors help suspension engineers to precisely tune ride and handling. A stiff chassis also helps reduce noise and vibration, and pays long-term benefits in durability.  quiet operation has always been a top priority for buick sedans, and here the park avenue represents a step forward. Wind noise has been reduced to a mere whisper, and the unit-body does a superior job of keeping road noise out of the cabin.  add roomy seats with real move-around comfort, and the going becomes positively serene, particularly during freeway cruising. The park avenue isn't quite as quiet as a $54,000 lexus ls 430, but the distinctions are academic in most operating situations. The distinction in price is not academic in any situation.  there is a discernible difference in handling between the basic park avenue and the flagship ultra. The base model behaves very much according to stodgy buick tradition, floating atop its wheels, with pronounced body roll and vague power steering.  we prefer not only the livelier acceleration performance but also the tighter handling of the park avenue ultra. With its supercharged engine and firmer suspension, it can easily take on the best lincoln and chrysler have to offer. The stiffer suspension reduces the ride height slightly and yields much sharper responses in quick maneuvers. That's because it includes not only the upgraded suspension, wheels, and tires but also the leather-wrapped steering wheel and magnasteer variable-effort steering that come standard on all ultras. Magnasteer adjusts steering effort and ratio according to vehicle speed and steering angle, keeping effort low while still providing a significantly better sense of where the front wheels are pointed. The system is even dealer-programmable for effort and feedback.  stabilitrak stability control is standard on ultra and optional on park avenue. Stabilitrak monitors yaw rate (how fast the vehicle is turning) compared to steering-wheel angle (how fast the driver wants the vehicle to turn) and selectively applies the brakes to one or more wheels to help maintain control when there is danger of sliding or skidding.  optional ultrasonic rear parking assist can detect objects that are close be. summarybuick has characterized itself as a purveyor of 'premium american motorcars,' and the park avenue is its ambassador for this theme, with subdued good looks, class-leading roominess, and many luxury features. 2005 buick rendezvous review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Ultra brings power, elegance to versatile vehicle. introductionthe buick rendezvous is easy to like, with solid engineering, useful flexibility, and a handsome appearance. Rendezvous is what the industry calls a crossover vehicle. It blurs the lines between sport utilities, minivans, luxury sedans, and station wagons. It carries people more efficiently than an suv, and it drives more like a minivan than a truck.  rendezvous seats five passengers, or seven with the optional third-row seats. Its seats are roomy and comfortable and the interior is elegantly designed. The controls feature big knobs and are easy to operate.  the new rendezvous ultra is luxurious with elegant leather and wood trim. It's roomier and can carry more cargo than a lexus rx 330, the archetype of luxury crossovers. Though not as quiet as a luxury sedan, the rendezvous rides better than most suvs. All-wheel drive is available, improving traction and handling in slippery conditions.  new for 2005 is a passenger-sensing system for the right front seat, which turns off the corresponding airbag if it detects a small-size occupant, or no occupant at all, thereby avoiding possibly injuries to a child or small adult and/or an unnecessary replacement of the airbag. A status indicator on the instrument panel tells occupants if the airbag is on or off. Even with this feature, however, the second or third row is the safest seating position for a child. lineuprendezvous is offered in a variety of trim levels: cx, cx plus, cxl, cxl plus, and ultra. For 2005, all models are available with front-wheel drive (fwd) or all-wheel drive (awd). A 242-horsepower, all-aluminum 3. 6-liter v6 with dual overhead camshafts (dohc) and variable valve timing (vvt) is standard on ultra and optional 2,025) on cxl and cxl plus.  the rendezvous cx 26,585) comes standard with cruise control, remote keyless entry, pass-key iii theft-deterrent system, am/fm/cd stereo, power outlets for all three seating rows, and p215/70r16 all-season tires on steel wheels. Cx awd 29,775) adds the all-wheel-drive system plus anti-lock brakes (abs) and side-impact airbags.  the cx plus 28,315) adds onstar, driver's information center, ultrasonic rear parking assist, manual dual-zone air conditioning and 225/60r17 all-season radials on 17-inch aluminum wheels. Both models come standard with side-impact airbags and abs. On models that don't come standard with them, we recommend adding side-impact airbags 350), anti-lock brakes 600), and traction control 175) for their safety benefits. A power sunroof 800) is available. Multi-media sound with touch-screen navigation 1,600-$1,995) is available on cxl, cxl plus, and ultra. A towing package 395) is offered on all but the base cx, and includes a high-output alternator, transmission oil cooler, heavy-duty engine cooling and automatic load leveling. It's difficult to judge its size of without the context of another vehicle nearby. That's usually a sign that the design team got the scale right. As a buick, it fits somewhere between the buick rainier, a truck-based suv, and the 2005 buick terraza, a new minivan-like vehicle gm is calling a crossover sport van. The spec sheet says that rendezvous is as tall as an suv, at 68. 9 inches without the roof rack. But with nearly 64 inches between the left and right rear tires, the rendezvous has a wider track than some medium-size suvs. And its strong horizontal design visually suggests stability.  the rendezvous' traditional buick grille emphasizes a familial resemblance to the park avenue, but on rendezvous it somehow looks less formal and more cheery. It's a pleasing countenance. On ultra, the familiar grille is body-color rather than black. Bright inserts along the top of the side molding add a look of richness to ultra. In short, we like its looks.  the amazing thing about the low stance and flat floor of the rendezvous is that all-wheel drive and a low, flat floor are supposed to be mutually exclusive. Well, the buick engineers found a way to do it. Too bad being unobtrusive is a mark of success because this accomplishment needs to stand up and take applause. It's best appreciated when driving with a full load of people and their stuff on a nasty, sleety, darkening afternoon with a slippery glaze on the street. interiorthe rendezvous has a nice, elegant interior with attractive wood accents on high-line models. The seats are comfortable. The ultra model we drove had a rich, two-tone interior with dark, coffee-colored upper and ivory lower trim with suede inserts on the seats. The leather seats gave off the smell of leather, a new-car smell that we hadn't experienced in awhile.  the steering wheel is nicely finished in leather and wood. The column shifter is covered in a soft, rubber-like material that feels good to the touch. Even the headliner is nicely finished in nylon-like material. The big center console is nicely upholstered and feels like quality. With its big glovebox, big cubby, and neat storage area under the center tunnel, there are plenty of places to stash stuff up front. The cup holders are big, solid and easy to access.  the switchgear is simple and elegant laid out. That's refreshing as many vehicles have become complicated and fussy to operate with small buttons and menus of controls buried in navigation systems. That's not the rendezvous. Here, climate controls are clear and easy to use and require a minimum of button pressing. Radio buttons are big and easy to operate, a paragon of elegant design. Even secondary controls, like the rear wiper/washer, park aid, and front seat heaters, are easy to find and operate.  even with seven inches of ground clearance and all-wheel drive, getting in and out of the rendezvous is more like getting in and out of a sedan than an suv. Small children, arthritic knees and tight-skirts can be grateful for that. All seats are easy to access and quite comfortable.  rendezvous can seat up to seven passengers. Or it can carry two people with scads of stuff. We recommend the second-row captain's chairs as a replacement for the standard 50/50 split bench seat, though the bench seats three. We found the captain's chairs quite comfortable, with supportive seat bottoms. They're nicely finished in leather (on models so equipped), and cup holders are provided. In short, the second row of the rendezvous is a comfortable place for adults to sit.  access to the third row is far simpler than in most vehicles with three rows of seats. The third row in seven-passenger models is somewhat cramped for adults, squeezed from the outside by the inner fenders, so it lacks leg room and hip room, and is best for kids. The seats fold and tuck and fit into an amazing number of arrangements. The available third-row seat 525) folds flat into the floor. For maximum cargo capacity, the center row can be removed. Hiding places and lockable bins are strategically placed here and there. When ordered without the third seat, cx plus and cxl come with a cargo storage system that includes a sliding tray.  the rendezvous' load-height is low, which reduces back strain when loading or unloading heavy objects. The rear opening is wide enough to slide a 4x8-foot sheet of plywood in flat. A red flag affixed at back will have to deal with the length.  the optional xm satellite radio features 100 coast-to-coast digital channels, including 71 music channels (more than 30 of them commercial-free) and 29 channels of sports, talk, children's and entertainment programming.  onstar works well as a navigation system because there's n. 2002 buick lesabre review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Tradition upheld. introductionbuicks are largely about tradition. And to uphold that tradition, buicks have been, well, large. Large interiors, large engines, large amounts of lavish trim, softly suspended on a saurian wheelbase, effortlessly pointed toward the far horizon.  the first lesabre, which debuted in 1959, broke from buick's traditionally massive style. It was long, low, and sleek; boldly sculptured but sparely trimmed, capped by a tight little greenhouse like the canopy on a fighter plane. But it brought all those other buick virtues with it into a new era.  how appropriate then, that the current lesabre upholds those same traditions in a far more challenging time. The days of 126-inch wheelbases and 6. 0-liter v8's are surely gone forever. But the full-size comfort they provided, and the full-size values they conveyed, live on in lesabre for 2002.  buick lesabre was totally redesigned for 2000, and acquired a longer list of standard and optional equipment for 2001. Yet it retains a strong buick identity, with nicely rounded edges and plenty of attractive curves. In profile, particularly, it features a nice curvy upturn along the rear doors, leading to a high trunk. It's a nice classic touch, fitting lesabre's position as a premium sedan.  up front rides a distinctive buick grille that sits well forward, where it's almost part of the bumper (a look buick pioneered in the 1940s). The headlights are well integrated into the sweep of the fenders.  safety is important to lesabre's image. Dual front airbags are a given, but lesabre has side-impact airbags for the front seats, too. Anti-lock brakes are standard.  the front seat belts are mounted to the seat frame, so they move with the seat for greater comfort. The seats boast a relatively new design that the engineers like to call a 'catcher's mitt.' the seat back is much stiffer than usual; in an accident it holds the occupant in place while the headrest moves forward to lessen whiplash. Government crash tests.  the lesabre's dashboard looks fresh and modern, undulating across the width of the car in gentle, organic curves. A canopy over the instruments extends from the passenger side to the driver's door panel. This design gives the interior an open feeling and nicely integrates the door trim into the dashboard. A wide strip of faux wood trim extends along the door panels and across the center of the dash.  round analog gauges are easy to read. The driver information center on the limited features a digital readout that can display oil temperature, fuel consumption, tire pressure and other data.  a front bench seat is standard on the lesabre, split 45/55 so the driver's side can be adjusted separately from the passenger seat. A bench seat does not usually provide as much support as a bucket seat, and the lesabre's is no exception. A large flat writing surface also flips out. It could prove useful for people who like to keep a notepad handy while on the road. But it sits at an awkward angle, and we found it difficult to use.  wide doors allow easy access to the front and rear seats. Rear-seat passengers will find plenty of room. The current lesabre is wider than pre-2000 models, but it still gets a bit tight with three adults in back. The rear-center armrest opens into the trunk to provide space for skis and other long objects. driving impressionthe lesabre is nothing like the big buicks of the past. Historically, buicks were fast in a straight line, but were softly sprung for a cushiony, isolated ride, and did not excel in roadholding.  the buick lesabre is no bmw, but the old floating sensation is gone. Standard self-leveling rear suspension keeps the ride consistent regardless of the number of passengers aboard. We did not try a base-suspension lesabre, but we expect that it would offer reasonably good handling as well.  the lesabre's 3. 8-liter overhead-valve v6 is one of gm's best engines. It provides good performance, even against the lesabre's substantial weight. The brakes do a good job of stopping the lesabre. In addition to self-sealing tires and a head-up instrument display, this package includes stabilitrak, an electronic vehicle-stability system that buick introduced in mid-2000. Stabilitrak helps keep the car on the correct line through a corner in slippery conditions by gently applying the brakes on one or more wheels. It cannot overcome the laws of physics, but it does add a margin of safety by partially correcting driver errors. The head-up display projects speed and other information onto the windshield in front of the driver's eyes. summarybuick prides itself as a maker of premium american cars, and it has upheld that tradition with the 2002 lesabre. For not much more than the price of a mid-size, lesabre delivers nominal six-passenger capacity and many luxury conveniences. 2007 buick lucerne review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Superb full-size luxury car. introductionthe buick lucerne is the brand's flagship sedan. Its clean lines are suggestive of fine european imports yet maintain buick traditions. Inside, lucerne is elegant, comfortable and easy. Underway, it's smooth and quiet; but with precise steering and a chassis that handles winding roads with aplomb. We find the lucerne to be a plush, highly competent full-size sedan at a compelling price.  the lucerne cxs is certainly the most enjoyable of the new buicks to drive, thanks to its powerful v8 engine and magnetic ride control, an adaptive sports suspension developed for the corvette. Yet we might opt for the lucerne cxl v6, a very enjoyable car to drive, with agile handling and plenty of performance. The v6-powered lucerne cxl is positioned to compete against the toyota avalon and lexus es 330, while the v8-powered cxs aspires to the lexus gs and infiniti m luxury sedans.  as it has done from time to time throughout its 103-year history, buick is rethinking, renewing, revising and rationalizing its model lineup. The buick lucerne replaced the park avenue and lesabre when launched as a 2006 model. The lucerne benefits greatly from the structure and chassis hardware that it shares with the recently launched cadillac dts. In this, lucerne is not breaking tradition but confirming it. Six-passenger seating is available by ordering the front bench seat 295). A comfort and convenience package 795) adds an electrochromic rearview mirror, universal home remote, illuminated visors with vanity mirrors, intermittent front wipers with rainsense, and body-colored outside mirrors with power adjustment and heat. The driver confidence package 795) includes rear park assist, remote vehicle start and theft alarm.  cxl is available with the v6 28,530) or a 4. 6-liter v8 30,540). Either way, cxl upgrades with leather seats (for five or six passengers), a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a power passenger's seat, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 17-inch painted aluminum wheels. The suspension is tuned a little tighter and includes airlift rear shocks for automatic level control. All items from the comfort and convenience package (see above) are also standard. The cxl v8 adds gm's magnasteer magnetic assist steering, with a faster ratio; and firms up suspension damping a little further. To help maintain better control in adverse conditions gm's stabilitrak electronic stability control system is available as an option on the cxl v8 495).  cxs 34,545) comes standard with the v8, 18-inch wheels, stabilitrak, magnasteer, and magnetic ride control for the best handling available in a lucerne. Cxs also has upgraded leather seats with eight-way power and memory for driver and front passenger. The classic buick waterfall grill blends in well with the large integrated headlamps. Still, we like them.  two new exterior colors, light quartz metallic and gold mist metallic, are available for '07.  the buick lucerne is built on the same mechanical platform as the cadillac dts, which was also all-new for 2006. Buick engineers shaped the outside of the door mirrors to lessen wind noise. Laboratory test results show that the lucerne is quieter than a lexus es 330. This was also evident in a back-to-back driving comparison. interiormuch like the exterior, the lucerne's interior is cleanly designed with just enough touches of wood and chrome trim to make it luxurious without being opulent. The dashboard is fairly traditional in design with a smallish instrument pod containing three round gauges in front of the steering wheel.  the center stack is located high up for easy access, and contains large knobs for operating the climate control and audio system.    standard on all '07 buicks is onstar with turn-by-turn service, which allows customers to talk to a live advisor, who in turn downloads complete step-by-step directions to the vehicle through the onstar system. Audio directions are then automatically played through the vehicle's stereo as they are needed, triggered by the onstar system's gps capabilities. Most people instead opt for bucket seats, which provide a good level of comfort and come with an armrest in the center console.  rear-seat passengers are well taken care of with good headroom and excellent leg room. The long wheelbase also allows for a wider-opening rear door with almost no intrusion from the wheel well, making it easy to get in and out of the car. driving impressionthe buick lucerne is a smooth but spirited car. The ride quality is excellent, thanks to its long wheelbase and stiff body structure. In back-to-back driving along a stretch of less-than-perfect road, we found the lucerne's ride quality comparable to that of the benchmark toyota avalon. Buick loyalists who are used to a cushy ride will not complain about the lucerne. It might be stiffer than they are used to, but it's still plenty smooth.  the steering is precise and responsive, and the suspension is well controlled, even at high speeds along not always smooth roads. A rigid chassis is the key to balancing sharp handling with a smooth ride, and lucerne really delivers.  the cxs comes with magnetic ride control, which we found improved the handling a bit, though the differences were not dramatic. Magnetic ride control is an adaptive damping system designed to enhance overall ride performance. With magnetic ride control, the shock absorbers are filled with a synthetic fluid in which magnetically charged particles are suspended. By applying electric current to the particles, a computer continuously adjusts the fluid's viscosity according to varying road surfaces and driving styles. The system, which first appeared on the sporty cadillac xlr, and then the corvette, delivers a quicker response than earlier adaptive-damping setups that continuously adjusted the shock absorbers' main valves.  indeed, when we tried a cxl v6, we were pleasantly surprised at just how well it performed. With the lighter v6, the lucerne seemed more agile on twisty roads. The front end felt a bit lighter. The v6 models also suffer less from torque steer, a slight tugging felt through the steering wheel when turning and accelerating at the same time. As an additional benefit the v6 lucerne is rated as a super ultra l.
